Leaving It in God’s Hands

When we are mistreated, our natural reaction may be to defend ourselves, return the insult, or make sure the person who hurt us experiences consequences.

But...1 Peter 2:23 shows us a different response through the example of Jesus:

“He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.” — 1 Peter 2:23 (NLT)

Jesus was mocked, falsely accused, and treated unjustly. He could have demonstrated His authority and silenced every accusation, but He chose not to repay wrongdoing with wrongdoing. Instead, He entrusted Himself (and the injustice committed against Him) to His Father.

This does not mean Jesus believed that what happened to Him was acceptable. Nor does His example require us to remain silent about abuse, avoid healthy boundaries, or refuse appropriate help. It means we do not have to become consumed with personal revenge. We can speak truthfully and act wisely while trusting God with the outcome.

God sees what others overlook. He knows the truth when our character is misrepresented, and He understands the pain we cannot fully explain. Because He judges fairly, we do not have to carry the exhausting burden of making everything right ourselves.

Following Jesus means choosing faithfulness over retaliation. We may not see justice immediately, but we can trust that our case rests securely in the hands of the One who sees completely, loves perfectly, and always judges rightly.
